Behaviors in Youth Sport

Title: Week Eight Forum Behaviors in Youth Sport
Week Eight Forum- Behaviors in youth sport 100 pts.

Due Date: End of Week 8

Forum 8:

After completing this weeks assigned readings and the Lesson in our Lesson section:

Part 1:
Young athletes participate in and discontinue sport programs for a variety of reasons. Stress can also significantly affect a young athlete’s sport participation. Addictive behaviors can influence both participation and performance. In this activity, you’ll very briefly reflect on your childhood youth sport experiences and determine what factors played a role in your decision to participate in and discontinue participation in a youth sport program.  What would have made your experience better?  What is the best way for parents to support youth athletes in a positive way?

Part 2:
Stress and addictive behaviors can have a significant impact on youth sport participants. To help them cope with stress and/or addictive behaviors, you can adapt and use several techniques that are relevant for children. Add a bullet point list and short explanation of sport psychology skills for youth athletes to help create fun, avoid burnout, teach them time management strategies, reduce fears of failure, and increase self-confidence.

Part 3:
In frustrating sport situations, young people are particularly influenced by adult behavior.
Why do some people act aggressively and others do not?
What socially learned cues in sport signal the appropriateness of being aggressive?
Identify and explain two Psychological Skills you would teach to help young athletes control their emotions.  Consider emotional intelligence or self-detachment.  What helps us stay under control and aware of our surroundings?

Note: Take time before posting to read ALL of the instructions below. Doing so will help you avoid point loss.
For each forum, respond by Thursday of this week. Then, by Sunday reply to a minimum of two classmates. Your first post (the one due by Thursday) must be a minimum of 250 words and a minimum of two required replies must be 100 words each. Partial completion of discussion board work (first post without both replies, or one or two replies without the first post) or posts not at or above the length requirements, or any posts containing copied or quoted material may  earn zero points, no exceptions. Replies must show that you are respectfully responding to what the classmate said.

Forums are opportunities for you to reflect, analyze, and even challenge thought, but proper netiquette rules must be followed. Reiterating what other students have already said and/or directly quoting them won’t earn points. All published materials used MUST be paraphrased (restated in your own words) and source credited both in the body of and in a list at the end of each post where any content is based directly on or inspired by a published author’s writing. In addition, you are required to apply in-text documentation and end references to all initial forum posts.

Each week you must incorporate into and apply idea/concepts from the week’s assigned readings to your first post (the one due by Thursday). This will be evidenced by clear identification of the ideas/concepts so the reader can easily locate them in your post an explanation of how they fit and their pages number locations in the course textbook.

Keep in mind as you write that “incorporating” doesn’t mean just tacking onto the end or randomly placing so you can say you did it. The ideas/concepts must be logically placed in the post in a way that fits with the flow of the rest of the writing.
