What are possible factors that increase your arousal, stress, and anxiety status right before an event?  How might you address the fear in those moments with more self-confidence?

Arousal, Stress, & Anxiety

Title: Week Three Forum Arousal, Stress, and Anxiety  100 pts

Due Date: End of Week 3

Forum 3:

Read our Lesson in the Lesson section and this weeks assigned material, and http://www.brianmac.co.uk/companx.htm You may also want to use online sources, Google etc., to research the State Anxiety Test, or the Competitive State Anxiety Inventory-2 (CSAI-2).

The CSAI  is a sport-specific state anxiety scale developed by Martens, Vealey, and Burton (1990). The scale divides anxiety into three components: cognitive anxiety, somatic anxiety, and a related component-self-confidence. Self- confidence tends to be the opposite of cognitive anxiety and is another important factor in managing stress.

Complete this scale.  Fill out the questionnaire for yourself before a practice, workout or meaningful event. If you are not currently active in competition, recall such situations as clearly as possible and record and report your responses in this initial forum post, then answer the following questions in your forum post:

  1. Do you tend to be an individual that struggles with stress and anxiety?  What does that feel like to you?
  2. If not, explain how you tend to keep yourself calm and low anxiety in the most stressful moments.
  3. What are possible factors that increase your arousal, stress, and anxiety status right before an event?  How might you address the fear in those moments with more self-confidence?
  4. What is a bullet point list of a few strategies that you can recommend to others to reduce stress and anxiety and maintain appropriate arousal levels?

Make sure  you add an in-paragraph citation and reference list to help others read about your sources of information and learn new strategies.

Note: Take time before posting to read ALL of the instructions below. Doing so will help you avoid point loss.

For each forum, respond by Wednesday of this week. Then, by Sunday reply to a minimum of two classmates. Your first post (the one due by Wednesday) must be a minimum of 250 words and a minimum of two required replies must be 100 words each. Partial completion of discussion board work (first post without both replies, or one or two replies without the first post) or posts not at or above the length requirements, or any posts containing copied or quoted material may  earn zero points, no exceptions. Replies must show that you are respectfully responding to what the classmate said.

Forums are opportunities for you to reflect, analyze, and even challenge thought, but proper netiquette rules must be followed. Reiterating what other students have already said and/or directly quoting them won’t earn points. All published materials used MUST be paraphrased (restated in your own words) and source credited both in the body of and in a list at the end of each post where any content is based directly on or inspired by a published author’s writing.

Each week you must incorporate into and apply idea/concepts from the week’s assigned readings to your first post (the one due by Wednesday). This will be evidenced by clear identification of the ideas/concepts so the reader can easily locate them in your post an explanation of how they fit and their pages number locations in the course textbook.

Keep in mind as you write that “incorporating” doesn’t mean just tacking onto the end or randomly placing so you can say you did it. The ideas/concepts must be logically placed in the post in a way that fits with the flow of the rest of the writing.
