Discussion Week 6 – Food and Health (Please copy and paste your choice of question as your header so that readers know what you are writing about):

Select one of the following questions:

1.  Evaluate the claims that organic produce and meats promote better health. Analyze the perception of organic foods in society in your response.

2. Childhood obesity as well as ADHD has been blamed on artificial additives. Choose one of these issues and present an argument either supporting or opposing these claims.
   3. Health advocates like Michael Pollan state that people should eat fresh, real food instead of processed products. Choose one health issue that concerns the US as a society and explain to a friend why s/he should make specific changes to benefit their health. Your friend is resisting because your advice violates the cultural norms s/he learned as a child. Use your knowledge of sociology, psych or anthropology to explain to your friend why they need to move away from those traditions.
   Learning Objectives completed this week:

Compare and contrast a wide diversity of foodways, cross-culturally.

Examine various theories used to explain different cross-cultural food customs

Compare and contrast cross-cultural perspectives and uses of milk

Differentiate the meaning various foods play in the cultural traditions and beliefs of peoples world-wide

Analyze a variety of religious, economic, medical and ecological reasons for the various different foods people choose to consume
