Assignment
You are the CTO of a medium sized multi-national manufacturing company which intends to
implement a modern ERP system including accounting software, distribution software,
manufacturing software, human resource and payroll software.
Your CEO knows a quite bit about technology and has heard that a number of SaaS ERP
packages are now available. He believes that such a system may be advantageous to the
company as it moves towards cloud computing.
He has asked you to prepare a report for him of at least 15 1.5 spacing pages (you can do
more but not less and not including pictures/graphs/diagrams). He wants to know:
1. the advantages and disadvantages of implementing a Saas ERP system instead of a
traditional on-premise ERP system (at least 3 pages including topics such as cost,
maintenance, business process alignment, possibility of customisations, hardware
requirements, communication requirements, personnel requirements, any IT
management issues)
2. a summary of at least 4 candidate SaaS ERP systems (at least 3 pages on each)
3. he insists that you cite appropriate references to support your work.
Since you have a lot of other work to do, he has given you 2 weeks to do the report. Jeff
Barker is a director of the company and he has made himself available to answer any
questions since the CEO cannot be contacted as he has taken 3 weeks’ vacation to stay at
the Golaghat Resort in Nepal run by Jeff’s friend Ramu Bomjan Tamang.
Structure:
Your assignment should have the following items in the order specified:
 Title Page
 Executive Summary (5%) [approx ¾ of a page]
 Table of Contents
 Body of report (70%) [at least 15 pages]
 Conclusion, Recommendation (15%) [at least 1 page]
 References – cited and in alphabetical order of first author’s last name (5%)
The overall presentation is worth 5%.
References:
References should be noted directly in the text using the format (Author last name, year).
Where you are directly taking information from an article it should be noted in that place in
the article. Direct quotations should be marked as direct quotes.

Plagiarism:
Your paper must be your own work and in your own words. Although you may quote other
people’s work, no more than 10% of your paper can be material from other sources,
including books, journals, on-line documents or other students.
You must not:
 lift whole sections of work (sentences, paragraphs) from another author, or
 reword another author’s work (sentences, paragraphs).
If you copy, reword, alter, massage or appropriate another author’s work, then this
demonstrates that you have not gained an understanding of the submission topic. All of the
above actions count as Plagiarism.
Generally, if you hand in work that can be shown not to be your own work, then you will
receive zero marks for it. Here are hints on how not to plagiarise:
1. Read the sources, and summarise the main points of each source in your own words.
2. Read through your summaries, and see where they reinforce each other, or where
they disagree. Go back and use the source material to polish your summaries where
required.
3. Hide the source material, and write your essay from your summaries. This will
prevent you from echoing the wording and the structure of the original source, and
will make you think more about what you are writing.
Where it can benefit your report, include diagrams, tables or direct citations from the
sources. Remember, no more than 10% of your essay can be from other sources.
